Ok so I dunno if you’re like me but I keep my old cell phones. Originally it was to have one as backup, but the others got put in a box and never seen again because usually I never need my backup. I did some spring cleaning not to long ago and actually found all but one of the cell phones I’ve ever owned, chargers included. My new mission is to gather them all up and recycle them. I haven’t decided which way I want to do it yet though. There’s plenty of places online that take them for free, but the easiest thing to do would be to find a cell phone recycling box around town. Wal-mart, Lowes, Target, and most grocery stores have a box somewhere.

No.1 – My 2nd phone, holy crap I could communicate with the hubble in space with that antennae!
No.2 – I had this one for years and so did everyone else I knew at one point.
No.3 – Looks brand new, is brand new. For some reason Cingular and Sony thought it would be great to have a phone that worked exclusively in only about 5 states. That phone didn’t last long when they realized the idea was stupid.
No.4 – That’s actually Crystal’s old phone…how’d that get in there?
No.5/6 – Yep…my work horse for about 5 years until I got my new iPhone in December. I went through two them. Nokia phones are the best at handling drops. That one survived a flight of stairs hitting every step….TWICE in it’s life time.
The main reason for recycling cell-phones like any other electronic device are mainly the compounds inserted into the plastics. Circuitry, displays and even plastic covers are all made with some type of compound that hurts the environment. It was an easy decision for me to make because it was convenient to think about. I’ve seen the boxes around town. I was spring cleaning and found two of the phones, decided to look for more and instead of throwing them away I’ll drop them off on my next trip to wal-mart. It’s not hard for people to recycle it’s getting motivated to do it! I know my mom has about twice as many as me so I’ll gather those up before I go, I might take another pic. Stay tuned for my special Erthe project pics soon! Getting together the pieces for an awesome shoot. :)
